ID Guidance

by msecadm4921

A new guide to assist businesses with records management will help in the fight against identity fraud says the British Security Industry Association.

Anthony Pearlgood, BSIA Information Destruction Section Chairman, says: "Records management is an essential part of running a business, enabling a company to operate within the law. However, some businesses may find knowing the length of time that different documents must be kept for and which documents need secure storage a bit of a minefield. This guide provides an easy-to-follow overview of such information, making the document retention process a whole lot easier for the business."

"The guide also provides information on how to dispose of records once their retention period is up. In order to protect from identity fraud and meet the requirements of the Data Protection Act, businesses are advised to engage the services of a professional information destruction company, which is inspected to BS 8470, to ensure that their confidential material is shredded securely."

The BSIA’s ‘Information Destruction Retention of Documents Guide’ is available to download from the BSIA website at www.bsia.co.uk/publications For more information on BSIA Information Destruction members, visit:
