by msecadm4921

Chief Constable of South Wales Police, Barbara Wilding, visited the DVLA at Swansea in June to present the Chief Executive Officer Noel Shanahan with Secured by Design (SBD) certificates for the DVLA sites in the Swansea area.

The sites are Morriston , Swansea Vale and the new Fforestfach.

The presentation acknowledged the commitment given to the safety and security of both staff and visitors to the DVLA by the DVLA and Telereal Trillium who are working with the DVLA to develop the site.

John Tincombe, the Designing Out Crime Advisor leading on the project said: "The commitment to safety and security shown by those involved in the project has been excellent. It has been easy for me to ensure the award was granted as the company worked with me at every step of the way. The DVLA were determined to provide the best quality environment for their staff and customers and safety and security were uppermost in their minds. It has been a real pleasure to work with the design team and the project managers."

The Chief Constable during a tour of the site stated how impressed she was with the working conditions as well as the feeling of security and safety generated by the way in which the building has been developed.

She said: " It is a pleasure to see how a government agency has embraced the Association of Chief Police Officers ‘Secured by Design scheme’ The refurbishment of the DVLA buildings has created a secure building which also provides a quality environment for people to both work and visit." Teleral Trillium are responsible for a number of high profile developments across the UK and have indicated that the benefits of SBD have been recognised by the company and they will seek to include Crime Prevention Design Advisors at an early stage in any future developments
