Women in Security 2013

by Mark Rowe

Nominate your candidate now. The 2013 Professional Security Magazine – Women in Security Awards are the security profession’s dedicated awards that recognise and honour the accomplishments, value and contributions of women within the wider world of security. This is their second year; the first were presented to some acclaim at the ASIS 11th European Security Conference and Exhibition in April.

Deadline for entries – as announced in the December print issue of Professional Security Magazine – is 22nd March 2013

Whether you are the CEO, chairman, managing director of your own security company; or a security professional working within the security department of a commercial organisation, or business, public sector or the wider world of security: we are looking for nominations in three sections: security manager; security officer; and contribution to security.

The judges will consider:

– How does nominee contribute to the security industry beyond their day-to-day employment?

– How does nominee stand out when compared to their industry peers?

– How has nominee paved the road for women in the security industry? Or how have they contributed to the success of women in today’s market?

– How will they contribute in the future?

Taking the lead again in organising this event is our long-time contributor Una Riley.

All women are welcome and nominations can be from anyone who recognises a female colleague as having made a contribution to their business or department … or the industry as a whole.

The 2013 PSM – WiS awards will run at IFSEC in May. This follows the inaugural 2012 awards, presented at the ASIS 11th European Security Conference and Exhibition in April 2012, in The City of London; and featured in the June issue of Professional Security magazine.

For more information email [email protected] and we will send you further details, conditions of entry and a nomination form. Or email [email protected]. But whichever address you mail to, please write ‘WiS’ in the title box.

The 2012 winners were Sue Seaby of Aon (security manager); Marva Jackson (security officer); and Kathy Ridgard of Sodexo (contribution).

Our judges: Justin Bentley, IPSA; Allan Hildage, Association of Security Consultants; Baroness Ruth Henig, SIA; Di Thomas, The Security Institute; Gerald Moor, Master of the Worshipful Company of Security Professionals; Jeff Little, NSI chief executive; Julie Kenny, BSIA; Lynn Watts-Plumpkin, SSAIB; Mike Alexander, ASIS UK chapter; and Stefan Hay, Fire and Security Association.
