Voices at ST14 North

by Mark Rowe

The latest in Security TWENTY 14, the free to attend Professional Security magazine series of regional conference-exhibitions, ST14 North, at Manchester on July 8, has some northern voices.

Peter Houlis, a 40-year security engineering man, is the founder and MD of the North Shields-based installer 2020 Vision.

Peter said: “Since the launch of Security Twenty 13 by Professional Security, they have quickly become an established event in the security calendar, so I am delighted to be speaking at the Security TWENTY 14 North conference. When I first became involved with security, 40 years ago crime seemed quite simple. Today, that sadly is not the case, globalisation and technological advances are changing the world we live in, in turn encouraging the security industry into a profession.”

Meanwhile Tony Porter the newly-appointed Surveillance Camera Commissioner, is using Security TWENTY 14 Manchester to give his first public views of his priorities. He’s among the speakers at ST14 North, the latest in Professional Security’s round of conference-exhibitions around the regions. It’s running at the Hilton Deansgate in Manchester city centre on Tuesday, July 8, opening at 9.30am. As featured in the May print issue of Professional Security, while CCTV systems do not have to keep to the commissioner’s code of practice, it’s something that civil liberties campaigners are using to hold CCTV users to account, such as – featured last issue – councils using CCTV on cars to catch drivers for parking breaches and fining them.

Another speakers with a northern view – and Tony Porter, too, is a former senior Greater Manchester Police man – is Don Brown, another former GMP man, who is now working against organised crime for Salford City Council. For those with a guarding rather than an electronic security interest, something new at ST14 – and to grab your attention after the free buffet lunch – is a guard dog demo’ by Sam Ingram of K9 Patrol.
