Surveillance camera survey

by Mark Rowe

Tony Porter, the Surveillance Camera Commissioner, is reviewing the Surveillance Camera Code of Practice and has launched an online survey, to help gather views on it.

While he will be attending a number of engagements with sector specialists – such as at the CCTV User Group annual conference at Kenilworth last month, which prompted a front page report in The Independent – he cannot reach everybody; hence the survey that is open to anyone with an interest.

Tony Porter, pictured, said “I want to be in a position to provide real recommendations to ministers about the code. What works and what might need to change or improve. We’ve already begun in earnest holding workshops and speaking to lots of people the code affects.”

The survey will gather information on peoples’ understanding of his role and the code, how it operates and where it may need to be altered.

He said: “I’m keen to hear from as many interested parties as possible. The survey I’m launching today will provide me with valuable insight into how the code is working and only takes a few minutes to complete.”

The survey will be open until June 30. The Government’s response to the Surveillance Camera Code of Practice consultation in 2013 said that the Surveillance Camera Commissioner would review the operation and impact of the Code and report back in 2015.
