Peter Greenwood Award

by Mark Rowe

Nominations are sought for the Peter Greenwood Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Security Systems Industry, Una Riley writes.

Peter Greenwood was a former Head of the Electrical Contractors’ Association Security Group, was involved with its Fire Group and was a founder member of the Security Industry Lead Body.

The Peter Greenwood Award is the longest established individual award in the security profession and has been in existence since Peter’s untimely death in January 1995. In his position as Chairman of the Security Industry Lead Body (SILB) Implementation Group, Peter worked tirelessly to enhance the cohesion and professionalism of the security industry as it was then.

Besides the introduction of the then new National Vocational Qualifications he also had a clear vision of the industry working closely together, providing rewards for its members and top quality service on behalf of its clients. After Peter passed away Una Riley took over as chairman of the implementation group and felt it appropriate to create an annual award to be offered to an individual who demonstrated the same kind of enthusiasm and selfless concern for the industry which Peter himself unerringly demonstrated. It was people like Peter that helped shape the industry to become the profession that it is today.

Over the years the organisations presenting the honour have changed from and in more recent years to the Worshipful Company of Security Professionals (WCoSP) has become its true home, with the FSA being the official sponsor of the Award. The format is that the Master of the day co-presents the award with Master Emeritus – Una Riley who is the guardian of the Peter Greenwood Award.

The award will be presented at the ECA Gala Dinner and Awards evening to be held at the ICC Birmingham on Saturday, June 22.
