Meeting for buyers

by Mark Rowe

The Security Industry Authority (SIA) plans to engage with buyers in the construction business and discuss the price of contracts for guarding services. So Ed Bateman, Deputy Director Partnership and Interventions at the SIA, told a recent forum for buyers of security in London. Although there is already a means to report on illegal activity via the SIA website, a portal on the SIA website will target building site contract security. Modern slavery and exploitation of illegal immigrants are also issues – some security guards are being paid £3 per hour for 24 hour shifts, he said. SIA chief Bill Butler, SIA board member Bill Matthews (on procurement in Scotland) and Mark Death, National Security Manager, Sodexo, were among other speakers at the event, which sought to update buyers on the regulation of private security, including best practice, SIA enforcement and the Approved Contractor Scheme.
