Interviews

London seminar

by Mark Rowe

With Avigilon, The Bloomfield Group and MET, ASSA ABLOY Security Solutions hosted a seminar in London. Don Randall, Chief Information Security Officer at the Bank of England, gave a speech, at the High Commission of Canada, Grosvenor Square. The event gave an update on the industry technology and strategy.

Delegates came from financial, retail and leisure security, to whom ASSA ABLOY Security Solutions presented its CLIQ Remote key control product. Also on display, the Shine electromechanical door lock, and the Codehandle, all demonstrating what Managing Director, David Wigglesworth, described as ‘mechatronic’ security – the strength of mechanical, with the flexibility of electronic.

Covering monitoring and evidencing, David Small, Regional Sales Manager for Avigilon, demonstrated the company’s high-definition surveillance systems and software. AAddressing physical security and remote site monitoring, Richard Bissett, Group MD of the Bloomfield Group, spoke on the NASv2 rapidly deployable CCTV system and how it can deter crime. Talking on the importance of integrating and managing the wide spectrum of IP based security was Ian Vickers, Managing Director of MET. Ian also raised the issue of cyber crimes.

David Trimmer, Chairman of the Bloomfield Group, said: “Don Randall’s key message was that security disciplines must blur the boundaries and communicate with each other, in order to form a complete and comprehensive security system. By working in partnership and as a community, Don’s message was that we could help the wider community, where heavy security investments can’t be made. It is in everyone’s mutual interest to strive for strengthened security, and provide the community at large with comprehensive protection against crime.

And David Wigglesworth, Managing Director of ASSA ABLOY Security Solutions, said: “As ever, the most valuable perspective is that of an end-user. Ian Stokes, Head of Facilities Management for Oxford University also spoke at the event, highlighting his concerns and priorities, and outlining the most up-to-date problems that we need to seek to solve. With budget constraints still playing a crucial role in security specification, this sort of engagement can inform our work and developments in the coming year.”
