Light on cyber-bullying

by msecadm4921

The malicious comments directed at British Olympic diver Tom Daley via Twitter brought cyber bullying to light. When it comes to awareness of how to deal with this kind of virtual attack, how well equipped are we? This is the topic examined by Hannah Tufts in the latest advisory for the employee security awareness company The Security Company, now available online.

Hannah says: “Oversharing contributes to individuals’ susceptibility to cyber bullying, so the advice is to avoid it. We’re continuously warned and guided about the likes of hackers and identity thieves, but the more sensitive topics remain somewhat taboo. There should be no distinction between online and offline activity, but the anonymity afforded by the Internet and the vast online community leaves individuals much more vulnerable.”
