Institute screening partner

by Mark Rowe

The Security Institute, the UK security sector membership body, has appointed The Inkerman Group as its new membership screening and vetting partner. This follows a competitive tender for security screening for The Security Institute (SyI) members, its staff and Chartered Security Professionals (CSyP).

The institute board of directors took the decision that it was appropriate that it adopt a recognised methodology and standard for undertaking screening which can be measured for proportionality and relevance and demonstrate commitment to professional standards. To this end, all SyI members, staff and CSyP applicants will now be screened in line with British Standard 7858:2012 – ‘Security Screening of individuals employed in a security environment’.

Emma Shaw, Chairman of the Security Institute said: “We are absolutely delighted to welcome the Inkerman Partnership on board. Membership screening is vital to our professionalism and underpins the appropriate recruitment and validation of our members. Adopting the recognised British Standard in security screening ensures that we are able to take a balanced, rounded and accurate view of a prospective individual’s background when applying for membership of the Security Institute or the Register of Chartered Security Professionals, and we feel this is an appropriate route to take. This appointment is yet another demonstration of key strategic decisions taken by the Board of Directors that reinforce our commitment to professionalism in the security environment and supports our membership growth and development plans of the Institute’.

And Karen Englishby, Director of The Inkerman Group said: “The Inkerman Group is delighted to have been appointed as The Security Institute’s screening provider and we are looking forward to a long and productive partnership together. We have been delivering screening services for many years – a business which has continued to grow and has led to a wide range of clients in both the public, commercial and private sectors. Being successful in securing this appointment is hugely important to us as it recognises the expected high standards required of our service delivery and we are very excited at the prospect of working with the team at the Security Institute.”
