Hotel managers putting on The Ritz

by Mark Rowe

The Ritz Hotel was the venue for the annual general meeting of the Institute of Hotel Security Management (IHSM) on Friday afternoon, December 2.

The gathering of mainly London-based hotel heads of security at the central London hotel, pictured, also saw the awarding of the IHSM’s third security officer of the year award. Pictured with the 2016 award is Basil Hamouiah, security superviser at The Berkeley, the five-star hotel in SW1, and on his left is Craden Moulds, his head of security who nominated Bas. The other finalists who also received plaques were Vlad Virag of the Marriott Park Lane, nominated by Silviu Papescu; and Vidas Klibavicius, nominated by Rajiv Millington, of the Mondrian London, a new hotel on the South Bank.

The first, 2014 winner, Darren Nourse, was also there – as a IHSM member, as he has since become security manager of the Hotel Como Metropolitan London in Mayfair. The IHSM meeting saw Karl Spiers step down as chairman; Darren Carter, head of security at Radisson Edwardian, takes over. Graham Miles, head of security at The Ritz, pictured right, becomes vice-chairman.
