Interviews

February 2016 print magazine

by Mark Rowe

Now on desks is the February 2016 print issue of Professional Security magazine. As ever we bring you news and views from around UK private security – personnel, physical, and electronic security alike.

We feature interviews with two contract guarding company MDs; ‘legal highs’ in prisons, that are not only a health risk for those taking the drugs, but a threat to prisoner and prison officer safety; Heathrow, Gatwick and Manchester airports; use of CCTV on the railways (pictured); a case study of lone worker protection at the William Hill chain of betting shops; and our regular pages on and about installers of security products.

For a second month we feature the recent Police and Security forum at City Hall in London; and in particular the partnership work towards a safer night-time economy on Clapham High Street, and the on-street guarding in the ORB (Oxford, Regent and Bond Streets) of the West End. And we continue a look at what has been a little-discussed subject, counter-fraud in the charity sector; this month offering one charity fraud prevention man’s call for a zero-tolerance approach, even in hazardous places where charity workers may feel that they had better give bribes to get things done.

Of our regular contributors, Jim Gannon looks at use of automatic number plate recognition; and from the United States Una Riley meets the face of the Los Angeles branch of the worldwide security management association ASIS.

Plus all the regular features – MD Roy Cooper’s gossip; four pages of new products and services; four of ‘spending the budget’ from such users of security products and services as Celtic FC, London Business School and Birmingham Dental Hospital; the usual page of book reviews; pages about IP and network security; and the calendar page (for the full list of events into 2017, visit the ‘events‘ part of our website).
