ASIS adds three

At the UK Chapter of the US-based security management body ASIS International, its management committee has three new members. They are:

Dawn Holmes CPP – Bank of America;
Dr Peter Speight – Securitas; and
Dr Michael McDonagh – Prudential.

Dawn, pictured, will be leading the ASIS UK Women in Security Programme.

The three in brief

Dawn Holmes CPP MSc BA MSyI – Bank of America, VP Protective Services Regional Manager Europe/ CEEMEA
Dawn has been working in the security industry for over 13 years, working mainly in corporate security and specialising in physical security, with an interest in CPTED.

Dawn has held positions at Boots, Britannia Building Society and Experian. She says, having worked with some fantastic bosses and others who are not so supportive, she understands that there can sometimes be the need for more support for women looking to make a career in security and is looking to work with other women in the industry and offering the necessary support.

Dr Peter Speight CSyP DBA MPhil MSc PgD MIRM – Securitas UK – Director of Security Risk Management
Peter worked in the chemical and pharmaceutical industry for 20 years, in health and safety roles and as Group Security Manager at Allied Colloids in Bradford, West Yorkshire, but with worldwide responsibilities. In 1998 Peter worked at the BBC as a security risk management consultant before accepting the position as Head of Security Operations for BBC London, a post that involved investigations, the development of security polices and procedures, as well as managing physical security arrangements.

In 2000 he joined Future Risk Management Ltd – a risk management company where he worked as Global Operations Director for their risk management consultancy division. In 2001 he joined Reliance Security Services Ltd as Director of Remote Monitoring Centre and was responsible for the development of the strategic business plan and research proposal to build an Alarm Receiving Centre. He designed and implemented of a new BS 5979, BS8418 Category 11 Surveillance Centre to facilitate CCTV video/alarm signals via IP software. In 2005 he joined the Reliance – High Tech Board of Directors and took responsibility for client consultancy and risk based, integrated solutions. In 2007 he joined Perpetuity Group as Head of Consultancy reporting to Prof Martin Gill, his duties and responsibilities included full P&L management and supporting client’s governance, risk and security needs. He rejoined Reliance Security Services in 2009 as Director of Security Risk Management, supporting internal strategic planning and risk driven, customer support.

He holds a Doctorate in Security Risk and Crisis Management, MSc in Security Risk Management and an MSc in Security Management. Peter has had several articles published on security subjects within the Journal of Applied Security Research and professional trade magazines, and is a visiting lecture at various University’s. Peter has published his first book, titled ‘Why Security fails’, featured in Professional Security last year.

Dr Michael McDonagh – Prudential Plc Group Head of Operational Security
In June 2013 he joined Prudential Plc as the Group Head of Operational Security and Intelligence, after a career in the Metropolitan Police Service as a Detective Chief Superintendent. He was the Commanding Officer of the only dedicated Counter Terrorism Protective Security Command in the UK. Michael served with the Homicide Command, Covert Policing, Specialist Crime Intelligence and Child Protection. Before the police, Michael served with the Royal Engineers and Trust House Forte.

Michael was the Senior National Protective Security Liaison Officer for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, responsible for providing critical protective security advice on all matters of physical, personal, and political security issues.

Michael’s doctorate explored the use of counter terrorism law across the communities of the Capital. Michael has a Masters Degree in Business Management, is a Freeman of the City of London, a nationally qualified Counter Terrorism Security Co-Ordinator and a member of the Worshipful Company of Security Professionals. Michael has recently joined ASIS.
