Hospital fencing and railings

by Mark Rowe

Binns Fencing and Zaun Limited, now sister companies, are to work on projects at Wormwood Scrubs, Thornford Park and Ealing Hospital.

Binns has won the contract from main contractor Keir for fencing at a new secure unit at Ealing in west London. With Zaun, Binns has developed bespoke fencing and railings that repel would-be intruders and keep residents secure within but which are aesthetically less threatening and blend better into the community setting, the makers say.

Five miles away at Her Majesty’s Prison Wormwood Scrubs, Binns is installing a 5.2m high perimeter comprised of Zaun’s HiSec security fencing panels with the prison-standard ‘358’ welded mesh configuration.

Wormwood Scrubs is a category B prison with five main wings plus a number of smaller dedicated units, handling remand and sentenced over-21 male prisoners from courts within its catchment area, as well as enhanced support for offenders with substance misuse needs on the Intensive Drug Treatment System.

Binns has also won the work from private hospital and clinic firm The Priory Group,.

It is installing the same product at Priory Thornford Park near Newbury, a 122 bed low and medium secure hospital offering assessment and treatment for males with complex care needs, histories of offending and those who may have failed in previous placements.
