Healthcare officer e-courses

by Mark Rowe

Skills for Security, the sector training body for the security industry, reports accreditation of two e-Learning courses for Healthcare Security Officers from AEGIS Protective Services.

A healthcare security officer, besides guarding against terrorism and protecting assets against loss by theft, fraud, waste and damage, on a daily basis, may be called to manage emotional, frightened, desperate, vulnerable people and volatile situations. Failing to make the correct decision could have disastrous and even fatal outcomes.

The AEGIS Healthcare Security Officer Training and ‘Top Up’ Training courses are the result of a ‘Knowledge-Needs’ assessment by healthcare security people, after a ‘Risk Assessment’ of the role of a Security Officer working in the NHS. The training is designed to drive up standards of security in healthcare settings nationally and by achieving accreditation from Skills for Security is setting the benchmark.

The ‘Top Up’ course is for those who are already SIA-trained, enabling them to upgrade to the new training standard, avoiding the expense of training duplication.

Available online, the courses can be studied when and where convenient and learners have up to 18 months to complete.

Jim O’Dwyer, pictured, from AEGIS Protective Services said: “I am very pleased and proud to have gained accreditation by Skills for Security for the Healthcare Security Officer e-learning courses and would like to thank and praise all who have contributed to development of the programmes, including the National Association for Healthcare Security (NAHS) and all the NHS Security Managers and Security Officers whose feedback has helped shape the training.”

Accreditation is the formal recognition that ensures training is meeting the appropriate criteria for best practice and that it meets or exceeds nationally recognised training standards. Skills for Security’s Accreditation endorses courses, training providers, trainers as well as in-house training schemes for the security industry.
