COVID-19 pandemic tracking

by Mark Rowe

Vismo Global Tracking Solutions is integrating Covid-19 data from John Hopkins University into its tracking product, enabling Vismo clients to see for free where their employees are in relation to outbreaks of the virus.

The US institution is actively monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic, updating the information in real-time on the number of cases, deaths and recovered patients, in affected countries and state-by-state and in cities in the US. An early adopter of the new service is Guardian SRM, a provider of security risk management based in Denmark.

Vismo incorporates the John Hopkins data into its own secure portal as a Point of Interest [POI] layer, enabling clients to see the exact location of any employee – who has the Vismo Global Traveller App on their smartphone or other device – with the latest Covid-19 statistics overlaid on their position.

Colin Dale, Director of Global Sales at Vismo, says: “Having the ability to track an employee who may have become infected, and the potential to trace any contact with another colleague could be helpful in isolating the spread of the virus.

“It’s also an extra step clients can take as part of their duty of care to their employees, when lockdown restrictions are eased or while their employees are involved in essential work including travelling to and from work. And keeping track of virus numbers in countries and American states when travel restrictions are lifted may influence a decision to allow an employee to travel or not.”

About John Hopkins

The Covid-19 dashboard map was built by Dr Lauren Gardner, an associate professor at Baltimore-based Johns Hopkins, in January 2020, when the outbreak was primarily in China, to track the spread of the disease as it unfolds from transparent data sources. Collecting information from a variety of sources including the World Health Organisation (WHO), European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, and the National Health Commission of the People’s Republic of China, enables Johns Hopkins to relay the latest information in real-time.
