Be Safe Not Shattered

by Mark Rowe

A ‘Be Safe Not Shattered’ DVD produced by the Centre for the Protection of the National Infrastructure (CPNI) outlines the hazards caused by flying and falling glass as the result of an explosion, whether an accident or deliberate terrorism.

The DVD outlines how up to 90 per cent of injuries in an explosion can be caused by flying and falling glass and the potential effects of a blast wave. It covers measures that can be taken to protect you, your business, your employees and customers.

Copies and further advice can be obtained from your local Counter Terrorism Security Advisor at – [email protected].

The Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure industry guidance (updated June 2013) deals with the three common measures which can be used to enhance
the blast performance of glazing, namely:

– anti-shatter film and bomb blast net curtains;
– laminated glass in normal window frames, and;
– blast resistant glazing in blast enhanced frames or fixed point glazing.
