An expanded contract to provide Facilities Management (FM) to the Scottish Government and its collaborative partners has gone to MITIE. The contract was awarded under the Government Procurement Service FM framework agreement.

The five year contract is expected to represent a total value of at least £30m.  The contract, to start on October 1, covers more than 80 buildings across Scotland, including specialist scientific facilities in Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Perthshire as well as the Student Awards Agency for Scotland, Science and Advice for Scottish Agriculture, Accountant in Bankruptcy and the Scottish Fire Services College.

MITIE says that it is committing to self-delivering more than 95pc of the services.  These include M&E maintenance, project delivery, energy management, cleaning and a range of soft services.  MITIE’s reports a seven year relationship with the Scottish Government and the contract firm says it gives a number of their collaborative partners the chance of economies of scale from a procurement contract of this size. The contractor adds that the monitoring of energy and the identification of energy efficiency projects will support the Scottish Government’s commitment to further reducing their carbon footprint.
