Robot with reach

by Mark Rowe

ICOR Technology Inc (ICOR), among exhibitors at Counter Terror Expo 2016 in London in April, is a Canadian-based company that manufactures and supplies protective security equipment to Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD), Tactical, and CBRNE units. In business for over a decade, ICOR makes the CALIBER robots that are in use with over 230 law enforcement agencies in over 25 countries.

The firm’s CALIBER MK4 Robot, pictured, is the newest member of the CALIBER family. The MK4 comes with a total of seven cameras, including a dedicated, telescoping Pan-Tilt-Zoom camera arm that can reach a height of nine feet. With two independently operated arms (one for the claw and one for disruptors), the robot can pick up large items and disrupt them in a safe area. The makers say they designed the robot for Large Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Devices (LVBIED) based on recommendations from bomb technicians and security personnel.
