Trevor Jones elected

by Mark Rowe

The University of Salford’s Head of Security and Community Support, Trevor Jones, has been elected as Vice Chair for the Association of Chief Security Officers (AUCSO). AUCSO is an association for security professionals working in universities, colleges and institutions of higher and further education in the UK – and the Continennt; the association is due to hold its 2017 annual conference in Ghent in Belgium.

Trevor’s role will be for two years before he goes on to become AUCSO chairman in 2018, to take over from Mark Sutton of Aston University. This will be for a further two years, during which he will represent universities across Europe on security and related topics.

Trevor, who secured 65 per cent of all votes cast in the election, stated in his application that he aims to raise the profile of AUCSO, not only within the UK, but across Europe and with the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA). Trevor also wants to further develop the sharing of best practice for all aspects of campus security.

Trevor said: “I am delighted to have been elected by my fellow security professionals across AUCSO. I look forward to being part of an innovative group that will bring many benefits to all universities.”

He’s been one of those behind the ProtectED code of practice, as featured in our May 2016 print issue. Trevor spoke on the topic at the AUCSO conferences at Loughborough in 2015 and Salford in 2016. Unis can get accreditation to show they attend to students’ safety and well-being.
