Durham extension

by Mark Rowe

In a contract worth £5m, the facilities management company Mitie reports that it has a renewed, three-year contract with Durham University. Mitie says that it will continue to provide what it terms integrated facilities management (IFM) to the main Durham campus and the Queen Campus in Thornaby. Some 100 people will be responsible for services including cleaning, landscaping, pest control and what the contractor calls ‘total security management’. Mitie was originally awarded the contract in 2010.

The FM firm also does work at Queen Mary University and Oxford Brookes in the education sector. Phil Holland, managing director for Mitie’s IFM business, said: “In the past four years we’ve been committed to transforming FM services and have continued to add value through altering work routines, providing supportive management to the facilities teams and acting as a trusted advisor for the client, offering expert advice and recommendations on service delivery. We are now looking forward to further developing a tailored FM strategy and providing the highest quality of services for the university’s students, staff, visitors and guests alike.”
