Westgrove double at BSIA awards

by Mark Rowe

At the BSIA Security Personnel Awards lunch on July 16, two men from The Westgrove Group were among winners of BSIA awards: Joe Harrigan, pictured, and Mark Cooper. Mark could not attend the awards, so Sunny Verma, one of Westgrove’s Business Managers accepted the award on his behalf.

Commander Steve Rodhouse, Commander for Gangs and Organised Crime for the Metropolitan Police, presented the awards at the London Hilton on Park Lane.

Joe Harrigan a Security Manager at Frenchgate Shopping Centre, Doncaster, has been recognised for demonstrating customer practice that has involved liaising with the various crime prevention agencies and undertaking bomb threat mitigation with his team. Joe said: “I was honoured to learn I had won this prestigious industry award, not just for myself, but for the Westgrove team. The high levels of service we provide to our partner at Frenchgate wouldn’t be possible without the consistent high standards delivered by my colleagues. The untiring effort of the whole Westgrove team, who have always supported me to enhance our level of service at Frenchgate, is unsurpassed. This has allowed me to build a fantastic relationship with our partners at Frenchgate Shopping Centre in Doncaster, where we all constantly strive to review our strategy and objectives to keep the relationship fresh and productive. Without all of their support this award would not have been possible.”

Mark Cooper, a security officer from The Podium Shopping Centre in Bath, was recognised for saving a woman’s life by preventing a suicide attempt. Mark said: “I am absolutely delighted to have won the BSIA National Award representing The Westgrove Group at The Podium Centre. It is fantastic to be recognised for your hard work. Helping people in need is all part of the job and is one of the reasons I decided to join the security industry. Westgrove have been superb in recognising my achievements and putting me on this platform to receive this award. It’s refreshing to have our company amongst the winners, rather than seeing the same large industry players dominate the awards. This is great recognition for the on-site team, the company and our partner.”

At Warrington-based The Westgrove Group Claire McKinley-Smith, Operations Director, said: “These National Awards for both Joe and Mark are a tremendous achievement, proving the high standards of service that are at the centre of The Westgrove Group’s working principles. I am very proud of Joe and Mark and their respective business managers, Tony Deacon and Sunny Verma for their outstanding success.”
