Western Business Exhibitions, organisers of The Health & Safety Event at the NEC Birmingham, has announced the winners of its inaugural Safety and Health Excellence (SHE) Awards. The ceremony, sponsored by 3M, was hosted by comedian Rory Bremner at The VOX, Birmingham, pictured, part of the NEC ‘campus’. A dinner saw an attendance of over 420 from the safety, fire safety, security and facilities industries. Other sponsors included: Turner & Townsend, Berendsen, McConie, Cirrus Research, Advanced, NQA, Southalls and Nebosh.
The winners were chosen by a panel of industry figures, who whittled down more than 150 entries to a shortlist of 75 entries across nine categories. The panel included Teresa Budworth (NEBOSH), Dr Bob Docherty (Institute of Fire Safety Managers), James Kelly (British Security Industry Association, BSIA), Ian Moore (Fire Industry Association, FIA), Niall Rowan (Association for Specialist Fire Protection), Neal Stone (ex-British Safety Council), Rob Strange (ex-Institution of Occupational Safety and Health) and Colin Webb (Oxford University). The categories covered all aspects of health and safety, fire safety and security and incorporates the long-standing British Safety Industry Federation (BSIF) Awards.
Wireless CCTV won Security Innovation of the Year; Pick Protection and Texecom were selected as Highly Commended and Commended respectively.
The BSIF Awards, which were judged live at The Health and Safety Event on April 10 and 11 at the NEC, were also announced during the night. Guardsman Ltd were awarded the BSIF Customer Service Award, the BSIF Product Innovation Award was won by Eave Intelligent Ear Defenders, and the BSIF Safety Solution Award went to Green Gate Access Systems.
The three-day exhibition at the NEC covers fire safety, facilities and related fields, besides health and safety. The 2019 event is due to run from April 9 to 11.
