A counterfeit cosmetics operation has been shut down by Redbridge Trading Standards after it was found to be selling fake goods.
Following a consumer complaint, Redbridge Trading Standards discovered that a brand of counterfeit cosmetics were being supplied from an internet site operated from a residential address in Woodford Green.
The internet website know as Charoux was supplying counterfeit cosmetics labelled as “Benefit” San Francisco brand.
A search warrant was obtained from Redbridge Magistrates Court and a raid was carried out in early December, with the assistance from the Met Police Community Policing team.
Over 1000 packages believed to be fake cosmetics were seized, along with computing equipment that was being used to operate the website. A number of the fakes were found still in their transport carton from a supplier in China.
Online shopping continues to be a growing part of the country’s economy. The supply of fake goods damages the confidence of consumers and denies trade to legitimate businesses.
Consumers are warned to beware of premium brand products that are available at prices that seem too good to be true.
