Business district improves

by Mark Rowe

Offices and licenced premises belonging to a Business Improvement District (BID) in central London have been offered property marking kits and clips to combat handbag theft.

The Fitzrovia Partnership is based near London’s West End and brings together local businesses, community groups and residents to maintain a safer, cleaner and more accessible district.

An mix of hotels, pubs and restaurants including the Charlotte Street Hotel and Japanese restaurant Roka as well as furnishing store Heal’s and world-renowned ad agency Saatchi & Saatchi all operate in Fitzrovia. Several embassies are also based in the area.

The partnership’s Ambassador team patrol the streets six days a week and are focusing on crime reduction. Pubs in the area are being offered The Chelsea Clip, for preventing opportunist bag theft from public places.

Produced by Selectamark, the Clip, pictured, is an injection-moulded nylon hook from which a bag, rucksack or camera case can be suspended by its own strap. Two hands are needed to remove an item from the Clip, making ‘handbag snatching’ virtually impossible, the makers say. It can be fitted to tables, walls, bars or behind lavatory doors.

Also on offer to members are 500 SelectaDNA property marking kits to mark office equipment. Lee Lyons, Business Improvement District Manager at The Fitzrovia Partnership said: “We have secured SelectaDNA property marking kits for commercial and residential properties and Chelsea Clips for licensed premises that are available to our members for free. We would encourage all our members to take part in this initiative to make their property and equipment more secure.”
