About the speaker

Nick Gargan’s policing career began in 1988 and he went on to work in uniform and detective roles in the UK and Europe for 22 years, including with the National Criminal Intelligence Service. In 2010 he moved to the National Policing Improvement Agency and was appointed Chief Executive. Nick was awarded the Queen’s Police Medal in the New Year’s Honours List 2012, and in March this year he joined Avon and Somerset Constabulary as Chief Constable.

During his lecture, Nick will reflect upon changes that have taken place in policing since the general election of 2010 and give his personal assessment of the challenges that lie ahead for a police service that is still contracting, and yet continuing to see reductions in crime.
