Wembley Arena contract

by Mark Rowe

One of the country’s most iconic venues, Wembley Arena, has awarded a contract to Showsec. In a three-year agreement, the crowd management and security contractor will run the front-of-house operation at the north London venue. The 12,500-capacity venue remains one of a handful of globally-renowned arenas for music, sport and other live entertainment.

Leicester-based Showsec says this increased profile at Wembley Arena adds to its line-up of arenas which includes those in Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield, Newcastle, Cardiff and Aberdeen.

Director Simon Battersby said: “This is a fantastic achievement for the company which underlines the fact that we are number one when it comes to event and venue security. We have run the backstage security at Wembley Arena for many years now, so we are delighted that we have been handed this opportunity to take on a more prominent role. It is testament to our commitment to achieving the highest possible standards across all aspects of our work that we have emerged successful from this tendering process.”

John Drury, General Manager of Wembley Arena, said: “We have enjoyed an excellent working relationship with Showsec backstage here. We look forward to building on that relationship front of house where we expect to see a continued rise in customer compliments for our FOH team.”

The new agreement with Wembley Arena will come into effect on March 1 and, the firm says, represents a significant development for their recently restructured London office.
Showsec divided this operation up into three areas earlier recently – East, West and Greater London – to cover the capital city. Wembley Arena will fall under the newly-appointed Area Manager for Greater London, Louise Stockden.

“We make a big commitment to helping individuals fulfil their potential and progress along a career path with our Management Development Programme,” added Battersby. “The fact that we can move forwards with confidence and secure prestigious agreements such as Wembley Arena is due to the development of our management infrastructure and Louise Stockden is a glowing example of someone who has come through that programme.”
