Web-based tracking

by Mark Rowe

Clymac, a fire detection and security systems installer, is using vehicle tracking. The web-based Ctrack Online system is monitoring a fleet of 37 cars and vans to improve customer service levels and reduce engineer response times.

The software will replace a tracking system that was no longer meeting operational needs, the firm says. It will mainly use hardwired tracking units along with a small number of self-installed devices, which connect quickly and easily to a vehicle’s OBD II diagnostic port. These Plug & Play tracking systems will be used in hire vehicles that are used by new starters to provide complete visibility of all fleet vehicles.

Clymac will use the tracking system to identify best-placed and most appropriate engineers, so it can respond to reactive issues. Help desk operatives, at the company’s head office in Loughborough, will be able to pinpoint the closest available engineer to a customer site after an incoming fault call, with a dispatch notification sent to their mobile device.

Cars will be fitted with a dashboard-mounted button to switch between business and private use. This will provide employees with privacy without visibility of their activity when driving outside of working hours. When the private mode is activated the online portal blocks out vehicle location.

Mark Connolly, Operations Manager at Clymac said: “We have worked closely with Ctrack to implement a highly-effective vehicle tracking solution across our car fleet. We look forward to it becoming an important tool within our operation to ensure we are achieving highly-effective engineering support nationwide along with optimum levels of customer service.”

And John Wisdom, Managing Director of Ctrack said: “Our proven tracking solutions, combined with unrivalled service offering and industry expertise, is helping our customers to realise a wide range of business and operational benefits. As a result, we are working with an increasing number of fleet operators, of all sizes and vehicle types, as their preferred telematics partner.”
