Wall walk for charity

by Mark Rowe

Eight staff from Mayflex, the distributor of products including cabling infrastructure, electronic security and network IP will be taking on a challenge to walk a 23 mile stretch of Hadrian’s Wall to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.

The challenge on Saturday, August 2 sets off from Carlisle and is estimated to take 12 hours. The team includes Gary Harmer, pictured, Director of Sales – Electronic Security, Anita Mistry, Director of Sales – Networking, Tracey Calcutt – Marketing Manager, Lyn Gale – Group Finance Manager, Liz Evans – Projects Manager, Amanda Sheppard – Projects Team Account Manager, Susan Janjua – Admin Support and Leah Atherton – Customer Services.

Dementia is an extremely cruel disease and whether it’s Vascular Dementia or Alzheimer’s the conclusion is the same, it slowly but surely destroys the mind and personality of the person and takes away their ability to do anything for themselves.

Tracey Calcutt, Marketing Manager said: ‘Sadly, there are a few of us at Mayflex that have close relatives that suffer from the condition and so we know firsthand just how cruel this disease is. Dementia is terminal and there is no cure and compared to other major killers such as heart disease and cancer much more needs to be done to find a cure or to at least prolong the deterioration of the person diagnosed with dementia.

‘We would like to raise as much money as possible to help fund more research into Alzheimer’s and Vascular Dementia and to help those people that already have it or need help looking after someone – we would be extremely grateful to anyone that would like to sponsor us.’
