Vodafone store alarms

by Mark Rowe

MITIE and CSL DualCom won the contract to provide monitored intruder alarms for UK Vodafone stores, as part of wider facilities management.

The mobile phone firm got a future-proofed alarm system that would eliminate dedicated phone lines. A more detailed alarm reporting method called SIA was important to provide the alarm receiving centre (ARC) with more information, and the ability to measure footfall in stores. The remote management capabilities of DualCom could also reduce the company’s carbon footprint.

The DualCom GradeShift UDL GPRS/PSTN signalling product was selected with the option to switch to TCP/IP network transmission if required. GPRS/IP was the goal, to come in at phase two. For the initial phase, the PSTN connection was used for ease of installation and management. MITIE already use DualCom GradeShift for their other commercial signalling contracts. The alarm signalling product firm adds that the remote servicing features mean that MITIE will not have to pass the cost of servicing on. The installations were carried out across London and the rest of the UK, including Northern Ireland. All engineers received training from DualCom field engineers and were provided with a technical support number . MITIE engineers can speak to regionally dedicated field based technical account managers. There is less disruption to the Vodafone stores as only one maintenance visit per year is required as the other statutory maintenance procedure is carried out remotely as specified in European Standard, EN50131. Real-time that helps MITIE to pre-empt network issues before they become an issue for the Vodafone store or MITIE’s engineers providing; another cost saving.
