In Norfolk, two men were arrested after an unlicensed music event that took place over the weekend at a chalk pit in Fincham.
Police first became aware of the event, which is thought to have had around 1,000 people in attendance, at about 10.40pm on Saturday when a large convoy of vehicles was seen by police and followed to Limekiln Plantation on Marham Road in the village.
The location of the gathering was a remote area of land that is difficult to access by vehicle. Officers assisted overnight in monitoring the situation, bringing the event to a peaceful and safe closure early in the afternoon of Sunday 3 March 2013.
Superintendent Dave Marshall, Local Policing Commander for the area, said: “It continues to be disappointing that people believe that it is acceptable to trespass, cause disruption, damage crops and ultimately the livelihoods of those who farm the land.
“Those attending this event showed a complete disregard for road safety, the agricultural land and the local community. During the course of the night, officers monitored the incident and did what was possible in the circumstances to maintain road safety and limit damage to surrounding crops and land.”
He added “Following the closure of the event, a large amount of sound equipment and a vehicle were seized with two arrests made. The suspects were later bailed pending further investigations.”
Enquiries by officers will continue into establishing who the organiser was and any other offences.
