Under-vehicle scanning at prison

by Mark Rowe

In north London, Pentonville prison has awarded Chemring Technology Solutions a contract to supply its VehicleScan surveillance product, pictured.

VehicleScan will aid security staff in the identification of objects concealed under vehicles that may pose a threat. According to the product manufacturers, the new system provides sharper images of the underside of vehicles which improves the time taken to review scans and reduces waiting times for vehicles entering the north London prison.

Using Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR), the scanning product will maintain a database of vehicles and their images, and will alert an operator to any changes on a vehicle’s underside during later visits. The new system will also identify any previously blacklisted vehicle attempting to enter.

About the firm

VehicleScan uses high-resolution line-scan technology to deliver full colour images of the underside of a vehicle with millimetre-scale detail. VehicleScan is part of the wider Site Security Solutions available from Chemring Technology Solutions, part of Chemring Group PLC, which also includes CCTV, standalone ANPR, and site access control equipment.
