Toy story

by Mark Rowe

The Northern Ireland-based contractor Mercury Security Management has been awarded the all-Ireland security contract for Smyths Toys. That toy retailer has 80 stores throughout Ireland and the UK.

Lisburn-based Mercury, which also has offices in Dublin, Limerick and London, points to retail clients that include HMV, Sports Direct and Lidl, and in shopping centres CastleCourt in Belfast among others. For Smyths Mercury will provide guards to all 27 Smyths stores across the island of Ireland, including six in Northern Ireland.

Liam Cullen, Mercury’s Regional Director UK and Ireland, said: “Whilst Smyths Toys provides endless hours of fun for children the length and breadth of Ireland, providing security for such a huge and respected retail giant is far from child’s play. We are delighted to work with Smyths Toys and the implementation of our manned guards into each store will provide vital protection and offer peace of mind for staff and customers alike,” he added.

And Smyths Toys’ Senior Operations Manager Adam Smith said: “At Smyths we take the safety of our staff, customers and products very seriously. We were very impressed by Mercury’s innovative and forward-thinking approach to security and with their extensive experience and expertise in the retail industry, we are confident that our stores will be safe and secure.”
