Thermal imaging for patrols

by Mark Rowe

SmartTask, the rostering and proof of attendance product firm, reports that it has become the first patrol monitoring and guard management system to integrate with thermal imaging cameras from manufacturer FLIR. Using smartphones, manned guarding providers can offer a service to customers and keep security officers safe against potential risks, it’s claimed.

Using a SmartTask-enabled smartphone with thermal imaging, if a security officer suspects an intrusion, or hears unexpected noises, the patrol monitoring tool can now be used to scan for residual heat signatures, to help determine if the threat is real and if added assistance is needed.

The security officer can also capture and collate evidence, including images and temperature measurements, when on patrol. As a result, incident notifications can be sent to a central control centre to raise an alarm, while all information is stored in an online portal for reporting and analysis. It can even be used to assess potential fire risk by identifying equipment or areas that are generating excess heat, so the issue can be reported before it develops into a major problem.

Paul Ridden, Managing Director of Skillweb said: “Using SmartTask in conjunction with the CAT S60 rugged smartphone means security businesses of all sizes can now cost efficiently utilise thermal imaging technology as part of a highly effective and robust patrol monitoring and guard management solution. It can help identify risks and capture important operational information to better protect and give added confidence to vulnerable workers that are operating in dark and isolated locations.”
