Terror threats to media workers

Journalists and other media workers who work in war zones and regions where subnational armed group activity is high take tremendous risks. Journalists are high profile targets for terrorist groups and dozens of media workers have been abducted and even executed by terrorists.

So begins an article from the Budapest-based Athena Institute, The Safety of Journalists: a National Security Issue – The Media as a Target of Terrorism. It describes itself as a research body that seeks to understand and tackle non-conventional threats in a 21st century globalised world.
