T in the Park

by Mark Rowe

Showsec have been on the site of T in the Park, the Scottish music festival, for almost a month for the build. The event security contractor is responsible for the security across the arena and the campsite for the duration of the festival, with 55,000 of those attending expected to camp there.

Showsec are beginning of a new three-year contract with DF Concerts & Events, it will be the final occasion the festival is staged in Balado near Kinross. In the countdown to T in the Park 2014, it was announced that the festival will be moving to a new site in the grounds of Strathallan Castle next summer.

Mark Logan, Showsec’s Director will be heading the company’s operation. He said: “We all want to see T in the Park finish on a high note at Balado. We appreciate what a special occasion this will be in the festival’s history. From our point of view, it is an exciting new development for the company and, in particular, for the expansion of our office in Scotland. The opportunity to operate at T in the Park strengthens our position in the music festival world because this particular event has earned iconic status and has become widely recognised as one of the largest festival-style events in Europe.

“It will also be the largest operation we have put in place in Scotland, making it a big step forward for this office in terms of our position in that market. We view each new client as an opportunity to prove ourselves, so we look forward to working with DF Concerts here in Balado and then at Strathallan Castle.”

The security operation will have up to 1,200 staff on duty at Balado for a festival which is expected to attract almost 85,000 to see more than 200 acts across ten stages featuring such as Calvin Harris, Pharrell Williams, Arctic Monkeys and Ellie Goulding.

Geoff Ellis, Chief Executive of DF Concerts & Events, said: “We’ve had 18 tremendous years at Balado and we’ll make sure it gets the spectacular send-off it deserves. We look forward to welcoming everyone for the very last party in Kinross.”
