T in the Park secured

by Mark Rowe

The Scottish music festival T in the Park turned 20 years this month. G4S Events, the events security arm of the multi-national security company, provided security for the event as it has done each year for the past two decades.

More than 85,000 people were on the site each day over three days, to hear headliners Mumford & Sons, Rihanna and The Killers on stage.

G4S Events has been the festival organiser, DF Concerts & Events’, security partner since 1994 when the event was first held in Strathclyde Park, Lanarkshire, where Britpop rivals Oasis and Blur headlined. Acts and the location of the festival have changed – moving to its current location in Balado, Kinross-shire in 1997.

Colin Rodger, Event Manager for DF Concerts at T in the Park said:
“Safety is our number one priority at T in the Park and we’ve worked in partnership with G4S and the rest of our experienced multi-agency team for two decades now to ensure that we can deliver and maintain the highest standards. We have an excellent working relationship and G4S have a highly skilled team who have been an integral part of the planning and success of the event ”

And G4S Events’ Managing Director, Eric Alexander, said: “G4S is proud to mark two decades securing T in the Park, which is possible due to the hard work of our staff and the relationship we have built with DF Concerts & Events. The event draws thousands of people to Scotland from the rest of the UK and around the world and safety and security will always be a challenge for a festival this size. G4S planners work year-round with the organisers to ensure that the security strikes the right balance between safety and allowing festival-goers to enjoy the weekend. The result has been successful festivals year after year and I look forward to continuing our partnership for many years to come.”
