Showsec at Wilderness Festival

by Mark Rowe

At the Wilderness Festival in Oxfordshire in early August, the contract event security was by Showsec for the first time. Apart from the bars which had their own staff, Showsec provided security and crowd management across the site at Cornbury Park, near the village of Charlbury, looking after some 25,000 attendees.

Showsec staff from the south coast, Birmingham and London areas came together for the family-friendly event, which featured outdoor activities including archery, woodcraft and swimming besides varied musical acts and other performances.

Project Manager Tracey McCarthy-Shaw said: “Since the event has already been running for a few years, the Showsec team had to adapt quickly and integrate smoothly with the rest of the operation. Fortunately, we took a flexible and customer-focused approach which was a success all round. This year went very well, and it gave us a chance to see how the event works before suggesting improvements for next year. We’re looking forward to working with MAMA [festival organisers] to make Wilderness even better and safer.”

August is UK outdoor festival season. Other events this month secured by Leicester-based Showsec have been V Festival at Weston Park on the Staffordshire-Shropshire border, pictured, and the heavy metal festival Bloodstock, for an 11th year, at Catton Park in south Derbyshire.
