SaferCash database

by Mark Rowe

From February 2017, Kings Security is managing and hosting the intelligence database for SaferCash, the intelligence sharing initiative aimed at reducing the number of attacks on cash-in-transit couriers, banks and ATMs.

Briefly, SaferCash records and shares information on the activity of Organised Crime Groups (OCGs) to aid the sharing of intelligence between couriers, the wider cash-in-transit industry and police forces.

Set up in 2005 and operated by the British Security Industry Association (BSIA) – the UK private security industry trade body – SaferCash offers the CIT sector intelligence on offences where Organised Crime Groups (OCGs) are active across force and regional boundaries. The aim; early police intervention and a reduction in crime and losses. As the sole security initiative of its type, SaferCash has signed up 17 cash-in-transit companies, five major banks and building societies and the two largest ATM providers in the UK.

Rob King, pictured, Head of Strategic Engagement at Kings Security said: “Winning the SaferCash business is significant for Kings and brings great kudos. A well-respected and effective security mechanism for cash and valuables-in transit vans as well as to major financial institutions within the UK, Kings will use its considerable industry expertise, gleaned in part from the development of the Kings Intelligence System [KIS], to host SaferCash intelligence and incident management.”

And Steve Hurst, Head of SaferCash, added: “Kings Security have demonstrated that they are a key player in the collation and utilisation of intelligence to drive down crime. It has a real synergy with SaferCash. This collaboration will enable SaferCash to build on an already excellent service with enhanced service delivery both to members and the Police Service which ultimately will prevent and reduce criminality.”
