Renewals service launch

by Mark Rowe

As featured in the April print issue of Professional Security, the Security Industry Authority SIA has launched its new e-Renewals service, which allows employers to renew licences or apply for additional licences on behalf of their staff.

The regulator reports that the service simplifies the application process and helps companies ensure that their employees remain licensed. If you are a licence holder you can ask your employer to renew your licence on your behalf. You will need to provide them with your Personal Identification Number (PIN), which is printed on the reminder letters we send you four months and two months before your current licence expires. You can also obtain your PIN by calling the SIA contact centre on 0844 892 1025.

If you employ licensed staff you can submit a renewal application on their behalf without the need of a signature. You will need their permission and you will need to be registered as a company sponsor to do this. Where the licence holder’s details are up to date, the whole of the application process can be completed online with no need to print the application form or submit documents.

The SIA adds that it has set up a dedicated business line to support e-Renewals and its other services, such as the batch application tracker. Visit http://www.sia.homeoffice.gov.uk/Pages/licensing-services.aspx

Meanwhile the SIA reports that this year has seen an increase in applicants using its telephone renewals service: since 1 January, about one in three (32pc) of all licence renewals have been completed over the telephone.
