A contract to provide security and crowd management for Preston Guild, an event which takes place once every 20 years and is being marked with a series of celebrations throughout 2012, has gone to the stewarding and event security contractor Showsec.

The contract, which begins on 3 June for the Preston Caribbean Carnival, will see the company supply security for a combination of arts, sport, music and business events across the city. Showsec does security and crowd management at other local venues including Preston Guild Hall and the University of Central Lancashire’s live music and club venue 53°.

Robbie Jarvis, Showsec’s Liverpool area manager, says: “A core part of Showsec’s approach is high-quality customer service and we’re looking forward to working with Preston Guild to deliver guest-focused security and stewarding services which help make the event enjoyable for every person that attends. It only happens once every twenty years so it’s vital that everyone has the best possible experience.”

Central to the contract will be the 10 days of the Guild from 31 August to 9 September, celebrations which include a four day festival where Showsec will supply upwards of 100 security and guest service staff per day. Other events in the varied programme include South East Asian event the Preston Mela on 24 June, and the Canal Festival, 26-27 August.

Robbie adds: “The huge variety and diversity of events taking place for Preston Guild allows us to showcase all areas of our expertise, demonstrating tailored security operations which suit the size, genre and cultural demographic of each event.”

Showsec adds that it will be recruiting locally for 30 new SIA licensed security people and stewards to work throughout the celebrations.
