Panels for Hong Kong project

by Mark Rowe

The security modular panel systems manufacturer Securiclad reports a major new project in Hong Kong. Panels were employed by Burton Safes as part of layered security for Royal England Safe Deposit Box Limited – a Hong Kong-based company that provides high-end safe deposit box facilities to businesses and private individuals.

Burton Safes, a supplier of safes, vaults, secure storage and access control systems, was commissioned by Royal England Safe Deposit Box Limited (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Asia Allied Infrastructure Holdings Limited, a company listed in Hong Kong on the Main Board of The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited – stock code: 00711). It sought a secure vault in the basement of a 30-plus-storey skyscraper in Central, Hong Kong’s main business district.

The project’s construction was constrained by weight requirements, due to the structural load specifications of the building – and its location above an underground Mass Transit Railway (MTR) line – and accessibility issues, as the building is sited on one of Central’s busiest streets, so construction work could only happen after 8pm.

Burton Safes, which operates across the UK, Europe, the Middle East and Far East, has a long term relationship with Securiclad. The safe company says that it chose the Securiclad products because of their independent security certification, lighter weight compared to traditional building measures, and the flexible construction allowed by their modular design.

Securiclad says its systems are certified to Loss Prevention Standard (LPS) 1175 Security Rating (SR) 4 and are approved for UK Government use by the official Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure (CPNI). They are used to protect high risk areas in the data centre, government, utilities, military, nuclear, healthcare and financial sectors.

Mike McColl, managing director of Securiclad, said: “We have a long standing partnership with Burton Safes and I’m delighted that by working together, we have been able to provide an effective solution for Royal England Safe Deposit Box Limited.

“Combined with other methods, Securiclad is helping Royal England Safe Deposit Box Limited ensure its customers have great confidence in the site’s physical security measures, and has supported Burton Safes in working within precise restrictions surrounding accessibility and weight.

“This project is a prime example of the flexibility of our high security modular panel systems, and our ability to work in partnership with other physical security providers. We’re looking forward to working with Burton Safes on future projects both nationally and internationally.”

Tony Lever, commercial sales manager of Burton Safes, added: “This project generated a number of challenges relating to accessibility and weight – we knew that Securiclad could offer a product that would overcome them and it’s been fantastic to have worked with Mike and the team on this project, and to have integrated Securiclad into a complete range of security solutions for Royal England Safe Deposit Box Limited.”

Ray Li, director of Royal England Safe Deposit Box Limited, said: “We had been searching for the right partners for this project for some time and we were therefore delighted to engage with Burton Safes and Securiclad, who have combined to create a high security environment that ensures our customers have the peace of mind that their valuables are fully safeguarded.

“Both Securiclad and Burton Safes have excellent reputations in their fields and it was very important to Royal England Safe Deposit Box Limited that we could work with companies who had the expertise to provide a high security level while working within our site’s constraints.”

About the product

The product company says that Securiclad can be used in new buildings or retro-fitted to a site and is pre-finished; hence no need for hot and wet trade requirements. It has internal and external applications and can be used to form a standalone ‘room’, kiosk or partition, the makers add.

Made at Securiclad’s factory in North Tyneside, the product can be delivered across the UK and abroad, as a turnkey solution, via approved and certified personnel or on a supply-only basis for contractors who prefer to install themselves. The product can also be supplied fully assembled as a smaller kiosk, guard hut or small storage space. Visit www.securiclad.co.uk.
