NEC extension

by Mark Rowe

The FM contractor OCS has been awarded a contract extension to June 2022 at the Birmingham venue the NEC (National Exhibition Centre). The contract firm has delivered the major soft services facilities management across all of the NEC Group’s venues since July 2012. These services include security and event stewarding, traffic and car park management, portering, cleaning, waste management and helpdesk.

Last year, the NEC Group ownership was transferred from Birmingham City Council to LDC, the private equity arm of Lloyds Bank Group. OCS’ contract extension to June 2022 includes a postal service for the NEC’s city centre venues.

Riach Ryder, the NEC Group Operations Director said: “The need to establish strong, mutually beneficial relationships with strategic partners like OCS is essential for the NEC Group. The longer our relationship lasts, the better for all parties including our customers, who are at the heart of everything we do. The advantages we have experienced across our NEC Group venues include improved performance, greater cost efficiency and help in growing our own business.”

Jane Sheard, CEO of OCS UK facilities services, said: “The NEC Group was looking for a true partner from day one of the contract. We are delighted to continue, not only providing great service standards and added value through innovation, but also to support the client’s values of the highest standards of communication and customer service excellence.”

OCS reports that it has introduced chemical-free cleaning and has driven sustainable operations. In September 2012, the NEC venue announced that it had reached its zero to landfill target two years ahead of schedule, supported by OCS’s waste management services. The NEC Group takes in five venues: the NEC itself, the Genting Arena, the International Convention Centre (ICC), the Barclaycard Arena and the VOX Conference Centre
