Metal theft awards

People United Against Crime (PUAC) has been Highly Commended by the National Metal Theft Taskforce for their ‘pioneering’ metal theft reduction strategies in Yorkshire and the Humber region .

PUAC is the only crime prevention charity recognised by these national awards and joins a list of police forces, large utility companies and trade associations also praised.

The Sheffield-based charity, which works in the Yorkshire and Humber region to reduce crime, strengthen local economies and support communities, has led a series of initiatives to tackle metal theft including:

Police-Private Partnership to Tackle Metal Theft II (Pol-PRIMETT II) – pan-European project which shares good practice between public and private sectors across Europe. For more information visit www.pol-primett2.org

Scrapwatch – the free metal theft alert website where victims and the police can share information about metal theft incidents. For more visit www.scrapwatch.co.uk

Business Crime Reduction Centre (BCRC) which provides advice and guidance to small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) that have been a victim of crimes such as metal theft. For more visit www.bcrc-uk.org

The awards were presented by Assistant Chief Constable Steve Thomas, British Transport Police at a ceremony in London on Thursday, March 20.

We will continue to share good practice and raise awareness of the impact metal theft has on businesses, individuals and communities.”
