Media milestone

A police force have reached a social media milestone of 50,000 followers on all of their social media sites – 42 in total. The number of social media followers has continued to grow into 2012, with the Staffordshire Police Facebook site accounting for almost half of all followers, fast approaching 25,000 fans.

People throughout the force area can receive frequent updates and give their own feedback about policing in their community and Staffordshire as a whole through Twitter and Facebook.

A new development also means that links to electronic versions of neighbourhood newsletters will be tweeted onto Local Policing Team accounts.

Ian Fegan, force Corporate Communications Manager, said: “We’re continually evaluating and developing our presence on social media. Over the last few months, we’ve focused development work to improve our neighbourhood level Twitter accounts, allowing beat officers and PCSOs to provide relevant information to specific neighbourhoods.

“Becoming a Twitter follower or Facebook fan is straightforward, with links to our sites off the force website homepage. You do not even have to be a member of Facebook or Twitter to view the social media sites.” The force’s social media sites should not be used to report an emergency, details of a crime or any other urgent matter.
