Manchester spring

by Mark Rowe

Bridgwater Hall was the venue for the annual spring security conference and exhibition in Manchester.

The event was set up 19 years ago by Stuart Pizzey MBE. Now Business Police Liaison Manager for Securitas, he was then a Greater Manchester Police (GMP) crime prevention officer. The event is co- organised by the BSIA and GMP. March’s event was opened officially by Tony Morton, Chair of Manchester city centre crime prevention panel, and GMP Assistant Chief Constable Garry Shewan. BSIA chief exec James Kelly chaired the morning conference. ACC Shewan presented the Bill Lowe Memorial Award for GMP Business Watch Co-ordinator of the year, to the retailer Primark Manchester for its work with GMP in reducing the call-out of Police for retail related crime by half.

Pictured is General Manager Anne ‘Mack’ McGarahan receiving the trophy, from ACC Shewan.

Speakers were from GMP, Prof Martin Gill of Perpetuity and Fraser Halliday of Securitas. More in the May print issue of Professional Security magazine.
