A new two-year contract with Manchester City Council involves provision of Taxi Marshalling services in the city centre, reports the stewarding and event security contractor Showsec.
The Christmas Markets, which have again turned Manchester festive at this time of the year, are among events which Showsec will help to deliver as part of this new agreement with the council. The contractor points to a long association with the events and marketing team at Manchester City Council.
Tom Bailey, Showsec’s Area Manager for Central Manchester, said: “We take great pride in the part which we have played in enhancing Manchester’s reputation for staging fantastic public events throughout the year, so we are delighted to be awarded this opportunity to build upon an association with the Council which stretches back many years. The work we have undertaken for the Council in that time across a diverse range of events has been a key factor in the development of our Manchester operation and this new agreement presents us with the chance to extend that further through the Taxi Marshalling services. We have demonstrated that we have the wealth of experience and in-depth knowledge to successfully deliver stewarding and crowd management operations for all the City Council’s projects, all with the aim of creating the ultimate experience for the public.
“The Christmas Markets [pictured; outside the town hall] are a glowing example of that commitment which involves us providing 24-hour cover throughout a six-week period to ensure that they live up to their reputation for being the best in the United Kingdom and one of the best in Europe. But there are many more celebrations and cultural events throughout the year which make it such a vibrant city, and indeed such a popular destination for visitors. While safety and security are, of course, paramount, we put great emphasis on customer service and staff are trained to interact with the diverse audiences.”
Other Manchester outdoor occasions include the Chinese New Year, the Irish Parade and Festival, St George’s Day Parade, Christmas Lights Switch-On and New Year’s Eve Firework Display. Showsec have also worked with the City Council on staging of homecoming parades for Manchester City and Manchester United football clubs to mark winning of trophies, ‘fanzone’ areas for sporting occasions, the Olympic Torch Relay in 2012, athletics events in the streets of the city and the annual Sky Ride for cyclists. Showsec also did the security at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester.
On the Christmas theme, the contract firm also stewards the German Christmas Market in Birmingham.
