Malaysian McDonald’s mass install

by Mark Rowe

Hikvision, the Chinese video surveillance manufacturer, and their Malaysian partner, AAC Distribution Sdn Bhd, recently completed a large scale CCTV installation for McDonald’s Corporation in Malaysia. The project included some 2000 Hikvision 3MP vandal-proof domes across more than 300 McDonald’s branches, all integrated with the food outlet’s point of sale (POS) terminals and accounting system.

Weison Chiang, Product Manager at AAC Distribution Sdn Bhd, said: “McDonald’s management were completely satisfied with the robust nature of the POS integration and the 1080p HD quality of the camera feed. A total of 2000 Hikvision 3MP Vandal-proof Dome Cameras have been supplied for the project, with each outlet using one camera for every POS terminal. For almost all the outlets, this means five or seven units connected to a Hikvision DS-7716NI-ST Embedded NVR. Each of the POS terminals has also been linked to the NVR through a serial IO server and switch. Because the video surveillance system is so tightly integrated into the central management system of each outlet, the store managers are able to search and play back the transaction histories to help with loss prevention and supply evidence for any customer transaction disputes.”

And Robin Hu, sales manager for Hikvision Malaysia said: “Hikvision is proud to have played an integral role in what has been a massive undertaking for McDonald’s corporation. The successful implementation of the newly integrated POS and CCTV surveillance system is a landmark moment in the company’s history. It has brought about an improvement in working efficiency in each store. But, far more importantly, it provides a safer shopping environment for both customers and staff.”
