Lone worker app for Kings

by Mark Rowe

from February 2019, all remote workers at the Bradford-based security firm Kings Secure Technologies will be using a lone worker app on their smart devices.

The firm asked its employee representatives at its ‘Colleague Frontline Forum’ what more the company could do to protect them at work. A growing concern was the number of night works taking place, where small teams of engineers are working in large buildings all night. That plus the ongoing terror threat, prompted Kings’ management to act.

The company recently partnered with Lone Worker Solutions to supply their Safe Hub product to customers, and it seemed natural to supply the same product to its own personnel who work alone.

Safe Hub, from Lone Worker Solutions, is a locate-and-respond protection system for people who work alone or out of sight of colleagues. It features emergency, buddy, reactive, proactive, broadcast and virtual barrier protection for varied lone working scenarios. Safe Hub supports an array of devices: Android, Apple and Windows smartphones, BlackBerry, standard mobiles, PCs, intrinsically safe devices, specialist lone working safety devices and satellite phones.

The National Security Inspectorate (NSI) has approved Lone Worker Solutions for BS8484:2016 Gold, the British Standard Code of Practice for the provision of lone worker device services, under its Guarding Gold scheme.

Kings was recently approved by NSI to BS8484:2016 under the ARC Gold scheme. The firm adds that it’s actively reducing the risk to employees by ensuring they are monitored by our Technology Monitoring Centre when vulnerable; and to ensure the safety of employees in a national threat incident.
