A three year security services contract at Headingley Carnegie Stadium, home of Yorkshire County Cricket Club and Leeds Rhinos rugby league team, has gone to G4S Events.
As part of the contract G4S will continue to provide guarding, stewarding, safety and crowd management at Headingley’s domestic and international cricket and rugby matches plus non-sporting events. Eric Alexander, Managing Director of G4S Events, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded this contract which extends our close working relationship with Headingley for at least another three years. Securing one of the most famous international sporting venues in the United Kingdom further strengthens our extensive portfolio of event security contracts in the sport and leisure industry.”
David Ryder, Operations Director at Yorkshire County Cricket Club, added: “G4S’s excellent service to date and its proven expertise of securing some of the UK’s leading sporting venues was key to our decision to award them this extended contract. We look forward to working with them at all events in the future – from Test Matches to conferences and events. We also welcome their decision to sponsor our Young Leaders academy and community programme which is a perfect example of how we can and do use our facilities and our expertise to support Yorkshire’s young people in a sustainable and meaningful way.”
G4S will sponsor Young Elite Leaders Academy run by The Yorkshire Cricket Foundation and Yorkshire Cricket Board, also based at Headingley. The programme has been developed by The Yorkshire Cricket Foundation and the Yorkshire Cricket Board to create a sustainable programme which provides participants with additional qualifications and pathways in to volunteering opportunities in sport. The 12 Young Elite Leaders, selected from across the county based on their personal and professional skills, gain experience and qualifications in a range of areas through the Yorkshire Cricket Young Elite Leaders Academy including cricket coaching qualifications and involvement with local cricket clubs. Through supporting the programme G4S will help these young volunteers gain good work experience which will assist in improving their employment prospects.
